Water Column Replacements

Rasmussen Mechanical Services was contracted to upgrade the water level control systems on Boilers 1 through 4 to improve reliability, visibility, and overall boiler safety.

The project scope included the removal of the existing water columns on each boiler. Rasmussen then furnished and installed new steel water columns (Model WO450) with flanged connections, providing a robust and serviceable installation designed for long-term operation.

Each new water column was equipped with relay controls (Model R310L) housed in a NEMA 1 enclosure, allowing proper level monitoring and integration with the boiler control and safety systems. New steel water gage valves (Model SG854) were installed along with prismatic gage glass assemblies (Model S9) featuring a 12.5-inch visible range, giving operators clear and accurate visual confirmation of boiler water levels during operation.

Following the installation of each water column, Rasmussen performed a hydrostatic test to verify the integrity of all flanged and piping connections. Each boiler was tested individually to confirm leak-free operation before being returned to service.

This upgrade enhanced boiler safety, improved water level visibility, and ensured continued compliance with applicable boiler codes and industry best practices across all four boilers. Shoutout to our Columbus Boiler Repair for the great work!
