5-Ton RTU Replacement
Centennial, Colorado

An aircraft repair station at Centennial Airport had paid for the same condenser coil repair three times on a 5-ton rooftop unit. The unit also ran on R-22, a refrigerant that's no longer made in the U.S. They decided it was time for a new unit.
We replaced the old unit with a new Trane 5-ton gas/electric packaged rooftop unit and used a curb adapter so it could sit on the existing roof curb. The job was scheduled for three days.
We brought in a crane to lift the old unit off the roof and set the new one in place, then hauled the old unit away for disposal. Since the shop sits on an active airport, the crane work had to follow FAA rules. We planned the lift so the boom stayed under 30 feet above the top of the unit, which meant no FAA permit was needed.
