Boiler Controls Retrofit

Rasmussen Mechanical Services completed an Autoflame MK8 controls retrofit on three Cleaver-Brooks boilers for Drake University.

The project included removal of legacy control enclosures and boiler-mounted oil system components, followed by installation of new control panels with Autoflame MK8 controllers and 12” touchscreen HMIs. The upgraded system provides advanced fault diagnostics, first-out annunciation, burner scheduling, and Modbus network capability.

New Autoflame servos and sensors precisely control fuel and air across the full firing range, including gas pressure, air pressure, steam pressure, flame detection with UV self-check, stack temperature monitoring, and differential pressure water level control using Siemens components.

Rasmussen Mechanicals Des Moines Boiler Installation team completed commissioning, safety device testing, combustion tuning, operator training, and provided full documentation. The retrofit is expected to deliver a 3–5% improvement in fuel efficiency while improving boiler reliability and campus-wide steam system performance.
