Chiller Controls Upgrade

Rasmussen Mechanical Services was contracted to complete critical electrical repairs and controls upgrades on an existing chiller system to restore reliability, improve safety, and ensure proper integration with the building automation system.

The scope of work included the removal and replacement of three failed contactors that had sustained burnt contacts, creating unreliable operation and increasing the risk of unexpected shutdowns. In addition, Rasmussen technicians replaced three loose fuse holders that were contributing to intermittent electrical connections and posed a potential failure point within the chiller’s power circuit.

To support proper system control and communication, Rasmussen provided and installed three RIB (Relay-In-a-Box) relays. These relays were required to successfully interface the chiller with the facility’s PROLON control system, allowing the chiller to respond correctly to control commands, safeties, and sequencing from the building automation system.

Following completion of all electrical repairs and control upgrades, Rasmussen performed a full operational test of the chiller. This testing verified proper electrical connections, confirmed correct control logic, and ensured the chiller operated as intended under normal conditions. Upon successful testing, the system was returned to service with improved reliability, safer operation, and full integration into the building’s control platform.
