HVAC and Boiler Service Partner

Sioux City, IA

Rasmussen Mechanical Services has been the mechanical contractor at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City since 2018, with more than 90 jobs across the hotel, casino, event spaces and boiler plant. It started with compressor replacements on the property’s rooftop units. In 2021 Hard Rock put its rooftop units and boilers on a Rasmussen preventive maintenance agreement. It signed a 3-year agreement in 2022 and renewed for another three years in 2025.

Boiler plant. The biggest job at the property was replacing the boiler vent piping and stack. Our crew installed a temporary flue first so the boilers could keep running and the hotel kept hot water and heat during the changeover. Around that project, our team has:

  • Replaced hot water pumps, pump motors and a hot water loop pump motor

  • Replaced gas valves, a flame sensor and ignitor, a display board, isolation valves and unions on the hot water boilers

  • Replaced the boiler room exhaust fan and insulated bare spots in the boiler room

  • Installed new stacks on the pool boilers and extended their gas piping

Rooftop units and air handlers. Our technicians have replaced a tandem compressor and several more compressors on the rooftop units. They’ve also replaced VFDs, supply fan and energy recovery motors, and a supply fan on an air handler. On top of that come motor replacements on two more air handlers and repairs to both dedicated outdoor air units, including a new blower wheel.

Hotel rooms and critical spaces. We’ve replaced more than 20 guest room compressors and condensing units, and furnished a new hotel condenser and fan coil unit. Our crew keeps cooling running in the spaces that can’t go down:

  • New compressors in the event venue’s electrical room unit and an elevator equipment room

  • A lead/lag controller, compressor and condenser fan motor on the computer room AC units

Controls and air distribution. We’ve replaced 21 filter pressure monitors and sensors and thermostats on six make-up air units. We installed a new control valve on a VAV box and a heating valve and actuator. On the air side, our crew added a new return register over one of the bars and insulated ductwork. We even ran a new gas hose for a kitchen oven.

Maintenance that pays for itself. Every round of PM visits ends with a list of problems caught early. The spring and summer 2026 visits found worn parts on 10 rooftop units and a computer room unit. Our crew replaced two compressors, plus crankcase heaters, fan motors, dampers and more, before the peak of cooling season. That’s the point of a maintenance partner: one team that knows every unit on the property and fixes it before it fails.
