Complete Boiler System Installation

Des Moines, IA

Rasmussen Mechanical Services partnered with Red Boot Beverage to design and install a complete steam boiler system supporting pasteurization and packaging operations. The project delivered reliable, code-compliant steam at multiple pressure levels while allowing for future flexibility.

The system centers on a Superior 100 HP, 150 PSI MAWP, two-pass dryback firetube boiler with a Powerflame natural gas burner and Siemens gas train and combustion controls. Steam is supplied to the pasteurizer at 15 PSI and to the shrink sleeve process at 50–60 PSI, with a fully integrated condensate return system to improve efficiency and water conservation.

Supporting equipment included an atmospheric feedwater tank with dual pumps, twin alternating water softeners, new natural gas piping, and a 30-foot chimney system. A blowdown separator with automatic after-cooler ensures safe discharge temperatures below 140°F, and all steam and water piping was insulated for energy efficiency. A custom 12’ x 25’ free-span pipe bridge was installed to safely route piping across the production space.

Rasmussen Mechanical completed State of Iowa installation notification, startup, and commissioning, and supported additional scope as production needs evolved, including added water and air services, stainless steel injection ports, expanded pipe supports, and additional insulation.

The result is a reliable, efficient steam system built to support Red Boot Beverage’s production today and into the future.
