Spirotherm Dirt Separator Install
Sioux Center, IA

Sioux Center High School needed their closed loop heat pump system flushed and a way to keep the water clean going forward.
We valved off and drained a section of pipe, then cut into the 4-inch discharge line to install a Spirotherm dirt separator. From there we went to every heat pump in the school, cleaned or replaced the in-line screens and flushed the coils. Once everything was back together, we topped off the water lost during the work and brought the system back up.
The separator doesn’t use filters. As water moves through it, dirt and particles drop out and settle at the bottom, where a valve lets maintenance drain them off every so often. The school has no filters to buy, and it’s far less likely to need a full drain-and-flush down the road. We work with the maintenance staff so they know how to drain it.
