7 Reasons To Service Your Boiler Annually

We get asked all the time, “why are regular boiler maintenance and service so important?” And our response is, not only will it increase the longevity and performance of your boiler, it will help prevent issues that will occur if you aren’t on a regular service schedule.

There are many issues that can occur with your boiler (no matter how new or old!) when you aren’t on a regular servicing schedule. Here’s why you should find a company that can perform regular boiler service and stay ahead of those cold Midwestern winters!

Save on Boiler Repairs

If you have regular service on your boiler to make sure that it’s working correctly, you can save a lot of money on repairs that may occur. Regular boiler maintenance keeps your repair costs down by catching problems early before they become very costly. Issues left unrepaired could cause significant damage or lead to malfunctions which will cost a lot more money later.

To do: Schedule your boiler maintenance appointment NOW before everyone starts realizing it’s getting cold out there. Quality boiler repair service companies will fill up fast and you can’t afford to wait!

Save Lives

There are many safety tests that our technicians perform while they are servicing your boiler. It’s imperative that these inspections happen regularly because they can ultimately save lives. In 2015, a total of 393 deaths resulting from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning. 36% of the deaths occurred in December, January, or February when most boilers and heating systems are active.

To Do: Are you aware that over 30 deaths and over 1,000 injuries can be attributed to leaks from boiler-related issues? Don’t let this happen to your facility! We can help and for a LOT less than you think. Take advantage of our specials that give you up to 10% off services when you refer a friend before December 1st!

Reduce Your Bills

When boilers are serviced regularly they are less likely to break down, will run more efficiently and in turn will be much safer. Regular boiler service will reduce your energy bills and ensure that the boiler and its main components have a longer life. Another way to reduce your bills would be to switch to an efficient thermostat, adjust your building controls, or adjust your boiler setpoint. These measures will reduce the energy your existing boiler consumes by up to 40%.

To Do: Do you know how much your heating expenses are costing you? Our clients report up to 20-30% higher system efficiency after we service their equipment! That can translate to thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in savings. The appointment is free so why NOT give us a call?

Ensures Insurance Coverage

Most boiler warranties and insurance policies require that you are taking the appropriate measures to ensure the boiler is safe to use. With boilers being a large expense and potential liability, annual boiler service will ensure that you are following your insurance policy requirements. If you’re unfamiliar with your insurance policy, it’s best to check with your agency so they may advise you on any additional steps you need to take to have coverage.  We can help clean and prepare your boiler for your annual inspection and address any issues we find.  If your inspector does have any findings, we will work with you to address the issue quickly and cost-effectively to get your boiler back on line.

To Do: Take a look at your policy and your operations manual to see what boiler maintenance milestones you need to discuss with your service provider. Rasmussen can be proactive and schedule appointments out weeks or months ahead so you never miss an opportunity to save!

Stay Under Warranty

Warranties are a lifesaver when it comes to replacing parts and whole pieces of equipment. But, there are also some rules you need to abide by. If your boiler or burner is under warranty, this most likely will only apply if you have your boiler serviced on an annual basis. Just more incentive to keep everything in tip-top shape!

But, what happens if you don’t keep this up? Your warranty is null and void. Meaning, if it does break down, you won’t be able to claim the money for repairs. So, what can you do to ensure that you’re following the rules and getting the most bang for your buck? Check the warranty conditions on your boiler and note if it requires any types of services or inspections.

To Do: Need to keep track of what your equipment warranties require? Make sure that the paperwork is organized by machine and date. It may also be beneficial to talk with your warranty supplier to better understand the actions you have to take.

Catch Problems Early

When you ensure that your boiler is serviced annually, you also allow your engineer to be able to identify any problems and address them before they do any major damage (talk about preventative maintenance!). Any issues you encounter, no matter how small, will only get worse as time progresses and the elements are able to erode away at your equipment.

To Do: Create a boiler log and keep track of inspections. What are you looking for weekly, monthly, annually? This will help track issues you come across and note what is taken care of or what may need more repairs/extra attention in the future.

It Could Be the Law

Are you a landlord or business owner? In order to keep your residents and patrons safe, you may be required by law or your insurance company to service and evaluate your boiler annually. You may be legally obligated to get a gas safety test (CSD-1 or NFPA 85 test) every year. This should include all gas equipment – not just boilers.

To Do: Look over appliances (stoves, water heaters, etc.) every year and between tenants that way everything is always up to date.
